What is Celiac Disease?

After being diagnosed with Celiac Disease I didn’t really know what to do. I was a third grader and didn’t reallt comprehend what happened. As I grew I became more and more interested in this disease and how I could make eating as enjoyable as possible. Luckily in recent years many different Gluten free options have shown up! I have spent a lot of time researching this issue, but for a nice recap I found this article on Google.
https://www.google.com/health/ref/Celiac+disease+-+sprue
Here is what I see are the main points to that article:
The inability to digest a certain protein called gluten. Gluten is found in common grains such as wheat, rye, barley, and most oats.
Symptoms are very varied and there is no exact reason to the cause of celiac disease
The treatment for this disease is to maintain a gluten free diet the rest of your life
There are many different articles and information on Celiac Disease but I thought this one gave a nice overall description. This may have been a refresher for most of you but for those of you who are recently diagnosed it is good information to know.
