Airplane Peanuts Not Safe?

Written By: Eric on October 15, 2009 2 Comments

While on my flight home a few weeks ago I was thinking about different foods that would seem safe to eat but may not be. Then, I got handed airplane honey roasted peanuts and what do you know “Wheat Flour” is one of the ingredients.

Before you tear open your next package of airplane peanuts make sure to read all the ingredients. One would think that peanuts would be a safe option for those on a Gluten Free diet but they contain Gluten for a reason I cannot think of. I am aware of other brands of peanuts that are safe to eat; it was just weird to me that these would contain Gluten. Make sure you check ingredient lists regularly it might prevent some major discomfort.

Many products contain things we do not understand why they would be in there. Usually I find out the answer is because it is cheaper than doing it any other way. Just like everything else in this country it comes down to money. If I can make more money doing it this way regardless of if it is the best thing for the consumer is far too common.

Yes I agree- This is why most Gluten Free products are more expensive. The ingredients are less plentiful which raises the price and the overhead is more expensive to have a facility dedicated to Gluten Free food.
