Product Review: Mi-Del Chocolate Chip Cookies

Once again I found a product that I feel comfortable with because of the packaging. It reads “perfect for those with Gluten Sensitivity”. These cookies are mini and bite size. I paid about $5 for the bag at the local Whole Foods.
Taste: B+ I really enjoyed these cookies. They were rich and were not over the top or bland. Also not crumbly and they tasted good! They do not have the same taste as just out of the oven cookies for obvious reasons but I really like these for packing in lunches or grabbing a quick snack.

Repeat Buy: A- I will definitely be purchasing more Mi-Del cookies. I am pleased with the taste and the price is reasonable They have a few different kinds so maybe I will try the others also! Mi-Del makes great products and I will look forward to tasting more from this brand.

Product Review: Mrs. Leepers Rice Pasta

Next product review will be Mrs. Leeper’s Pasta. I felt the need to do this one after doing the review for Tinkyada Brown Rice Spirals. The spirals were you guessed it, spiral. Mrs. Leepers were spaghetti style. I liked how these ones cooked. With Tinkyada the water turns thicker and makes it a little more difficult to clean out the pot. I do like the taste of Mrs. Leepers and was impressed by the quality of the noodles. The texture, taste and price are all great!

Taste: A I really like the taste and it goes well with any type of pasta sauce!

Repeat Buy: B+ I buy either Tinkyada or Mrs. Leepers. If I know I will be having spaghetti and want noodles specific for that I will go with Mrs. Leepers!

Product Review: Redbridge

My last review was on a Betty Crocker Cake Mix. I was very pleased with that product and hope you all were able to try it!

This weeks review will be on a Gluten Free beer called Redbridge. I have mentioned this brand before when talking about baseball venues that carry the beer but I thought I would give you a little more information on it. First off, if you are under 21 years of age you should not test this product after reading this review!

Like most people, the first beer you ever drink will taste a little weird and that’s how I felt with this, Redbridge was the first beer I ever drank since I recently turned 21 and was never able to drink “regular” beer. However, after a few different nights of trying them I started to like it more and more. It has a nice crisp taste and my friends all said it was just as good if not better than the beer they drink. Obviously there are tons of different beers out there so it is nearly impossible to compare Redbridge to an exact beer. Personally I am not a huge beer drinker so I do not have a lot of experience but from talking to those who have had their fair share they would describe Redbridge as heavier than Light beer but not as heavy as some darker brews. Redbridge is not made with wheat or barley, instead it is made with sorghum. Here is a little more information on how it is brewed.

Taste: A

Redbridge is a rich, full-bodied lager brewed from sorghum for a well-balanced, moderately hopped taste.

Redbridge is more expensive than traditional “college beers” it is not as expensive as your nicer beers. It costs about $8.00 for a 6 pack. I have only found them in singles and 6 packs at stores (I got my 6-pack at Albertson’s). This was the only Gluten Free beer available at Albertson’s but at natural markets I have found a few different kinds. I know at Whole Foods they carry 3 different beer in 6 packs that are Gluten Free.

Looking on the official Redbridge website you can locate stores where you may purchase or order Redbridge; (Dine In or Dine Out) I think this is an excellent feature because if you have no clue where to look and do not want to call around you can do it on the website. Go ahead and follow this link and see where you can find Redbridge in your area!

Product Review: Betty Crocker Yellow Cake

Well the second time in as many weeks my product review will be a Betty Crocker product. This week I made the Yellow Cake and used chocolate frosting to top it off. The cake was very easy to make, I only needed eggs, butter, vanilla and water. I like how it specified on the package to use Gluten Free Vanilla. I would recommend sticking with pure vanilla extract and not the imitation. I have heard mixed things from the imitation kinds. All that was required was softening the butter and mixing all of the ingredients. It took less that an hour for the whole process.

I was very happy with the cake I made. It did not crumble and looked and tasted like a “normal” cake. All of my friends who saw it and tasted it said it was really good.

Taste: A : Moist and very rich, one of the best cakes I have had.

Repeat Buy: A : I will likely be making a trip down the baking isle at the grocery store to find more Betty Crocker Gluten Free products to try.

Tip: I found these products at the Albertson’s near my house, I have not seen them at Safeway.
Also, They are mixed in with the other cakes and mixes so do not give up if you do not see a “Gluten Free” section in the baking isle.

Product Review: Betty Crocker Gluten Free Brownies

Last week I wrote about how Betty Crocker has expanded to accommodate for those sensitive to Gluten by coming out with Gluten Free products. Over the weekend I was able to make and try the Brownies. They were very easy to make, I only needed butter, eggs and milk. I was very excited about this review because I know Betty Crocker makes good products and I was excited that they came out with Gluten Free options. If you have not checked out their Gluten Free site I suggest you do. If you are looking for a place to find these products, follow this link and it will locate products for you.
There are also cookie and cake mixes which I will be very excited to review also! I am glad to say that the brownies I had were delicious and I felt great afterwords. I had to stop myself from eating them all in one sitting because I wanted to save some for later. They were easy to make and tasted great, a few friends even said they tasted better than brownies that have wheat.

Taste: A One of the best desserts I have ever had. Very rich and not dry at all. Very impressed.
Repeat Buy: A I will gladly buy these again, and would recommend the same to anyone else.

Product Review: Glutino Gluten Free Cheddar Crackers

My last review was of Tinkyada Brown Rice Spirals and they were a great success. This time I will be reviewing Glutino Gluten Free Cheddar Crackers. These crackers can be purchased at most natural and organic food stores such as Market of Choice or Whole Foods, I have noticed even some Safeway stores are carrying them.

These crackers come in a box enclosed with 2 seperate bag of crackers, you could probably eat 1 bag in 2 seperate snacks. So I got about 4 snacks out of one box. Now that the math is out of the way let me tell you what I thought.

Taste: B+ I thought they were good crackers and you could definetely taste the cheddar which made them even more delicious. I envisioned them being kind of plain but the cheddar made them very good!

Repeat Buy: A- I will likely buy this product again. You can use them in so many cases that I want to always have some in my kitchen just in case.

Some other instances you could use these would be with lunch meat and cheese or with tuna. No matter what you want to do with these you will not be disappointed. I was very pleased with Glutino Gluten Free Cheddar Crackers

Product Review: Tinkyada Brown Rice Spirals

This weeks product review is Tinkyada Brown Rice Spirals. One of my favorite Gluten Free products here. I usually eat pasta 3-4 times a week. Many of my friends have said that these taste better than the wheat noodles that they eat. It cost me around $4 for a package. I generally get 2-3 meals out of one bag.

On the package it says:

Wheat Free

Gluten Free

Good Consistent Texture

Not Mushy

I am glad to see all of these listed and would have to agree

Taste: A : These noodles are by far the best Gluten Free noodles I have ever had. Like the package reads, they are not mushy and have a good texture. Friends that have tried these also enjoy them and say they taste really good!

Repeat Buy: A+ : These are the only brand of noodle I will buy, sometimes I may buy more traditional spaghetti noodles but these have been my top choice and will continue to be in the future. I highly recommend these noodles.

Product Review: Glutino Gluten Free Pretzel Twists

My second product review is Gluten Free Pretzel Twists by Glutino. Again, the bag indicates that this product is indeed gluten free which I really like. These pretzels are amazing! All of my friends that tried them said they are better than pretzels containing wheat. I paid about $8.00 for a good sized bag at the local Whole Foods. These bite-sized pretzels are perfect for a quick snack or packing in a lunch.

Taste: A+ These were delicious and I am a huge fan. They were not too crunchy and had a good taste, they did not taste like cardboard or air like I have heard other pretzels described. Nothing else I have tried even compares. They were tasty!

Repeat Buy: A I will definitely be purchasing these pretzels again.
